IGP: 16 arrests so far in ongoing Israeli ‘spy’ investigation

5 April 2024

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain today said a total of 16 individuals have been detained so far in connection with the arrest of suspected Israeli spy Shalom Avitan and the seizure of six pistols at a hotel in Jalan Ampang.

He said after investigating 38-year-old Avitan, a local married couple aged 40 and 42 who sold the pistols to Avitan and another man who was Avitan’s driver, the police detained another 12 individuals. They were detained at various premises in Johor and Kuala Lumpur based on intelligence gathered and information from the public.

The IGP said the police are skeptical about accepting the reason given by Avitan that he came to Malaysia to kill a leader of a rival crime family, emphasizing that the police will continue their investigation to uncover the real reason behind Avitan’s presence here and his acquisition of the six pistols.
