According to Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director, Zulkifly Ismail, express buses undertaking trips longer than 300 kilometers or exceeding four hours must have a second driver for enhanced passenger safety.
This regulation ensures that drivers receive adequate rest, thereby decreasing the likelihood of accidents. Zulkifly made these remarks following a Hari Raya operation conducted on express buses at the Penang Sentral Bus Terminal.
During the operation conducted from April 1st until yesterday, a total of 121 buses were inspected by the authorities. Out of these, five buses were subjected to action for not complying with the requirement of having a second driver.
